During the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can be very easy to forget to focus on yourself.

This can make you feel as though you are running on empty or worse, that you are burning out.

I have put together 5 simple ways that you can reconnect with yourself daily and avoid the unpleasant experience of physical and mental exhaustion.

1.You time

Schedule time to do something that you love: singing, dancing, hiking, cooking, waking up early and doing meditation, talking to a friend, watching your favourite show.

Whatever makes you feel good and rejuvenates you will help you to reconnect with yourself, so make time daily just for yourself.

Take time now to schedule time in either the morning or the evening that is just You time - and stick to the appointment You make with Yourself!

2. Reflect

Reflection is a way to see where you are right now in your life, the achievements you’ve accomplished and to think about the things you still long for.

It allows you to become aware of you and where you want to go in life.

To get started, ask yourself these three questions:

• What have I done well?

• What else do I want?

• How am I going to get it?

3. Meditate

Meditation can be as simple or as ritualistic as you want - and it can also be as short or as long as you want.

You can do it within 10-15mins when you wake up in the morning or before bed.

Meditation reconnects you through your breathing, tunes into your mind and body and helps you relax.

During your meditation, notice what are you feeling, what parts of your body are tense? and also what thoughts and emotions are coming up for you. Acknowledge and then let them go.

4. Disconnect

It’s a technology driven world, but we don’t need to be dependent upon it.

Turn off your mobile phone and go outside and really take in the world around you; lay in the grass, swim in the ocean, skip rocks across the lake, run on the sand.

The natural world grounds you, refreshes and energises you and the fresh air will do wonders for you.

5. Gratitude

Practising an attitude of gratitude allows you to celebrate your present life, and to appreciate all that you have.

Zig Ziglar says that gratitude “…is the healthiest form of all human emotion”.

Take a journal and write about things that you are grateful for each day, or if you’re more of a mover and a shaker.

Another idea is to play your favourite upbeat song and move around while saying out loud all of the things that you are grateful for in the last 12 hours.
